Ben has over a decade of experience in the finance industry spending 7 years with ASB Bank as a Commercial Manager as well as 2 years running the commercial and development division of Squirrel Mortgages before starting Lateral Partners in 2020. As Director of Lateral Partners, Ben specialises in working with developers, businesses and large investors to provide financial advice, lending and equity solutions for projects of all shapes and sizes.

Ben has assisted clients nationwide for different funding needs working primarily in the recent past with property development clients on anything from in-fill townhouses through to greenfield subdivisions.
Having completed a development himself, Ben has a good insight to the challenges faced in the development landscape and enjoys assisting clients in securing solutions to enable their projects.
In his spare time Ben enjoys following Arsenal football club, hanging out with his wife and 2 kids, gardening and golfing.

James has 10 years of finance experience the majority of which has been within the commercial lending and property finance space. He spent 8 years in Australia holding roles at National Australia Bank, Investec and four years as a commercial broker in Sydney. Upon his return to New Zealand in 2019 he spent 3 years at a prominent non-bank lender helping manage their loan book.
He is passionate about property, design and urban development. He leans on his experience as both a lender and a broker to provide tailored debt and equity solutions to property developers and commercial property owners.

Olivia has 2 years experience in the finance industry previously advising in both the commercial and residential sectors. Coming from a background in property development, she has a keen interest in property finance and the commercial lending space. Olivia assists the commercial team to connect clients with funding solutions across New Zealand tailored to their specific needs.

Sam has come from a background in Olympic Sailing and is putting his skills learnt in high-performance sport to the property finance industry. Whilst sailing, Sam undertook a Commerce degree at the University of Auckland, majoring in Finance. Sam, with a keen interest in property, brings skills of managing multiple stakeholders, analytical and process-driven to the commercial analyst role. Outside of work, Sam enjoys watching sport or being on the water fishing, diving and wing foiling.

Kolya is currently completing his final semester of a conjoint Law and Commerce degree, majoring in Finance, at the University of Auckland. With 1.5 years of experience in residential team at Lateral Partners, combined with his academic background, Kolya has developed strong analytical thinking and a disciplined approach to the commercial mortgage industry. His ability to navigate complex challenges and manage diverse priorities makes him a valuable asset in the commercial analyst role. Outside of work, Kolya enjoys playing tennis, outdoor rock climbing, and engaging in discussions about capital markets, embracing an active and intellectually curious lifestyle that fuels his drive and focus.
